Celebs Get Real About Mental Health Struggles

Which pop singers, actors and models have recently opened up about grappling with depression, anxiety and addiction? The list might surprise you.

In the last year, more than 20 celebrities took to social media to speak out about their battles with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and addiction.

BuzzFeed recently comprised a comprehensive list of who opened up and about what conditions. Model Chrissy Teigen and actress Hayden Panettiere both discussed their experiences with postpartum depression. Teigen admitted that at first, she felt “selfish” saying that she was struggling as a new mum when she had so much support, but added that “postpartum does not discriminate.”

Gabrielle Union and Abigail Breslin—both actresses—spoke about surviving sexual assault, while pop singer Katy Perry livestreamed a therapy session in which she described a struggle with alcoholism and thoughts of suicide.

Anxiety was perhaps the most common issue brought to the forefront by performers, with singers Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, Zendaya, Logic and Colton Haynes all coming forward as suffering from it.

Their overall message was one of positivity and self-acceptance. As actress Gina Rodriguez wrote on Instagram, “there is nothing different or strange about having anxiety and I will prevail.”
